These guitars and basses will all be handmade, with a sound that is off the charts. "Gibson is an outstanding company and has earned its place as a leading guitar brand with fans around the world. "I have been designing and trademarking bass guitars for decades, and when I heard Gibson's vision and learned about their creative process, it just made sense for us to join forces to take things to the next level," said Simmons. you can only stick your tongue out so many times but you have to deliver the goods.' 'You live and die by the instrument in your hands. The G2 Thunderbird Bass, which will be available in ebony with silver appointments and ebony with blood red, made its worldwide debut on stage with Simmons recently during KISS' epic New Year's Eve concert in Dubai. To kick off the collaboration, G2 will release the new G2 Thunderbird Bass later this year. G², from Gene to Gibson, will introduce new collections of right and left-handed electric guitars and basses across Gibson's Gibson, Epiphone and Kramer brands, and develop new entertainment content that will be streamed to millions of fans worldwide on multiple online and social platforms. NASHVILLE, TN - Janu- Gibson, the iconic American guitar brand, has entered into a joint venture with Gene Simmons, international rock legend and co-founder of KISS, America's #1 gold record award-winning group of all time, in all categories (RIAA), to create G². G2 To Introduce New Electric Guitar and Bass Collections and Streaming Entertainment Content I will be shipping this in it's original box and additional bubblewrap.Gibson and Rock Icon Gene Simmons Enter Joint Venture To Launch G2 So be careful and don't damage the knobs by pushing/pulling them because there isn't any coil-tapping whatsoever!Ī very enjoyable, easy playing Bass with a big sound. Finally, this bass was marketed to me to have coil-tapping and this is definitely not the case despite online retailers and Gibson themselves advertising a coil-tap function for this 2018 Thunderbird Bass. Minuscule scratches (seen only under bright lights) can be found near the pickups and I assume this is from a pick touching the finish.very, very faint but worth mentioning. There is slight inconsistent intonation on the higher frets of the E-string and this can be fixed with the multi-tool provided but this wasn't a problem for me as I rarely fret high up on the E-string. Most Thunderbird users seem to use a pick but Fingerstyle (John Entwistle) and Slap/Pop styles are great on the loud punchy humbuckers, especially when plucking over the bridge pickup, versatile if you want it to be.Īs this Bass hasn't seen much action blemishes and flaws are very hard to come by but I will list some small things: There are tiny paint chips around the edge of the raised centre block which was there when I opened the hardcase for the first time. It's honestly one of the best/robust instruments I've ever played but due to the weight of the Bass/Hardcase and my own lack of personal transportation I'm looking for a much lighter solution. Thunderbird basses have a notorious history of having fragile headstocks (when struck) so I left it there for extra safety. The hardcase has a pocket which contains all original factory items: A Gibson multi-tool, a leather Gibson strap, user manual, a Gibson polishing cloth, Warranty, a factory inspection letter and a photo of the Thunderbird itself (presumably just after factory inspection).Īs you can see from the images I've provided, the hardcase has bubblewrap cushioning the headstock of the bass and this how it was out of the factory. The strings are Gibson roundwounds, G.45, D.65, A.85, E.105 gauges respectively. The original strings from the factory remain on this bass and still have plenty of brilliance and life in them and I've set up the string action very low for comfortable and effortless playing. I've polished it down every time I played and stored it in it's included hardcase. This Bass has not been used much at all and I've rehearsed with it on no more than twenty occasions. This is a genuine left handed USA made 2018 Gibson Thunderbird bass guitar that I've owned for about a month, at the time of this listing.
